Automated formal analysis of human multi-issue negotiation processes

چکیده
This paper reports on experiments in (human) multi-issue negotiation and their analysis, and presents a generic software environment supporting such an analysis. First, the paper presents a System for Analysis of Multi-Issue Negotiation (SAMIN). SAMIN was designed to analyse multi-issue negotiation processes between human negotiators, between human and software agents, and between software agents. The agents conduct one-to-one negotiations, in which the values across multiple issues are negotiated on simultaneously. To analyse such negotiation processes, the user can enter any formal property deemed useful into the system and use the system to automatically check this property in given negotiation traces. The paper presents the results of applying SAMIN in the analysis of empirical traces obtained from an experiment in multi-issue negotiation about second hand cars. In the experiment the efforts of 74 humans negotiating against each other have been analysed using SAMIN.

Experiments in Human Multi - Issue Negotiation : Analysis and Support ( extended
Negotiation is a process by which a joint decision is made by two or more parties [1]. Typically one of the parties starts a negotiation by offering the most preferred solution from the individual area of interest. If an offer is not acceptable to the other parties they make counter-offers in order to move them closer to an agreement. Multi-issue negotiation (also called multi-attribute negotia...
متن کاملA System for Analysis of Multi-Issue Negotiation
This paper presents a System for Analysis of Multi-Issue Negotiation (SAMIN). The agents in this system conduct one-to-one negotiations, in which the values across multiple issues are negotiated on simultaneously. It is demonstrated how the system supports both automated negotiation (i.e., conducted by a software agent) and human negotiation (where humans specify their bids). To analyse such ne...
متن کاملUsing Gaussian Processes to Optimise Concession in Complex Negotiations against Unknown Opponents
In multi-issue automated negotiation against unknown opponents, a key part of effective negotiation is the choice of concession strategy. In this paper, we develop a principled concession strategy, based on Gaussian processes predicting the opponent’s future behaviour. We then use this to set the agent’s concession rate dynamically during a single negotiation session. We analyse the performance...
متن کاملA Multi-Agent Environment for Negotiation
In this chapter we introduce the System for Analysis of Multi-Issue Negotiation (SAMIN). SAMIN offers a negotiation environment that supports and facilitates the setup of various negotiation setups. The environment has been designed to analyse negotiation processes between human negotiators, between human and software agents, and between software agents. It offers a range of different agents, d...
متن کاملA Dynamic, Optimal Approach for Multi-Issue Negotiation Under Time Constraints
Multi-issue negotiation can lead negotiators to bi-beneficial outcomes which are not applicable in single issue negotiation. In a multiissue negotiation, a negotiator’s preference has a significant impact on the negotiation result. Most existing multi-issue negotiation strategies are based on an assumption that a negotiator will fix its predefined preference throughout a negotiation, and the ne...
